Brilliant At Breakfast

This is way overdue. I blame my work for robbing me off time for me to blog. Meh!

--

I stumbled upon Brilliant At Breakfast whilst browsing for music online one day. I have a habit of clicking stuff which usually leads me to awesome bands. Score! I'm like a kid in a candy store when I discover bands on the internet. I get really trippy and spam everyone on my Twitter list. Follow me HERE if you want to be spammed! MUAHAHA!

To be honest, I fell in love with the band's name first (I fall in love easily, don't I?). A quote from Oscar Wilde, who happens to be my favourite author. I get a little lost sometimes when I listen to their music - which is good! Cause sometimes life is too distracting, you just need a little escape. Quirky, whimsical and apt. That's how Brilliant At Breakfast sounds. I managed to get Eka to answer some silly questions I came up with prior to their gig at Esplanade.

Again, apologies I didn't get to post this before their performance. Sadpanda.

Are you guys really stick figures?
Of course we are! Anyone who said to the contrary is not to be trusted. Oh, and we are not to be trusted, by the way.

Why Brilliant At Breakfast? Are you guys fans of Oscar Wilde, by any chance?
Of course we are! Nothing more delicious than a healthy dose of aphorisms dowsed in pepper sauce... yum.

Describe your music in less than 12 words.
Verbose, raucous, capricious, otherwise dull. There, just five words -- keep the rest.

What's a typical day like?
One word: SNOOZE.

What's the first thing you think of when I say, Singapore?
Well - singa? (the lion)

Here's a sample of their awesomeness if you have no clue who they are:

I'll post a review of their gig shortly. Fireworks as background. Sigh!

You always hurt the one you love. The one you shouldn't hurt at all.

You always take the sweetest ro-ose
And crush it till the petals fa-all

You always break the kindest heart
With a hasty word you can't recall
So-o if I broke your heart last night
It's because I love you mo-ost of a-all

Here's a silly performance by Ryan Gosling and Jimmy Kimmel.

Two words. Blue Valentine. Go watch it. I'm not forcing you because I'm a fangirl. Heh. It's truly a remarkable movie.

I love/hate it when I'm obsessed with a movie.

I Sang This Song To You And You Broke My Heart To Pieces

Should I try to hide
The way I feel inside
My heart for you?
Would you say that you
Would try to love me too?
In your mind could you ever be
Really close to me?
I can tell the way you smile
If I feel that I could be certain then
I would say the things
I want to say tonight

But till I can see
That you'd really care for me
I will dream that someday you'll be
Really close to me
I can tell the way you smile
If I feel that I could be certain then
I would say the things
I want to say tonight

But till I can see
That you'd really care for me
I'll keep trying to hide
The way I feel inside

Clowns to the left of me, Joker's to the right. Here I am stuck in the middle with you.

I've been looking for this song. For ages. I tend to exaggerate alot.

You have no idea how happy I am to finally put a song title and band name to this, otherwise 'unknown to me' song.

Hope you're having a fab Wednesday!

Twee Like Me

Dear Elefant Records,

I love you.

Yours Sincerely,
Aliah

I love Twee. I really do.

What is Twee?
Something that is sweet, almost to the point of being sickeningly so.

Fine with me.

I love anything and everything Twee. It's happy music for sad people. To put it across blindly. I don't think happy people listen to happy music. It'll just make them delirious right?

Going back to my 'love letter' to Elefant Records. Refer above. I truly need to thank them for existing. For feeding my love for Twee. That's one of the best place to get albums. Twee or not. Especially those that are not readily available here in Singapore. Bummer. I've embraced the fact that I need to spend more for the things that I love. Most of the time, I need to do alot of scouring.

The School is under Elefant Records. No surprises.

You can listen to their debut album, Loveless Unbeliever HERE.

Tell me you didn't bop your head from side to side when listening to this song. Are you sure you didn't even smile for awhile? C'mon! Twee makes everyone happy! Right?

I'm happy.

I FOUND A BAND: Chief

Discovering Chief was a chance encounter.

The awesome thing about YouTube: you look for a particular video. You see similar fabulous videos on the right. It's up to you to click at random. And on days like these - if you're lucky like me, you'll stumble upon a kickass band. My favourite type of activity. Finding bands almost accidentally.

Chief, a four piece band from California is a mix of a few bands, I feel (can't really put a finger on it yet though - I need to listen to them more, I guess?). Not necessarily a bad thing. I happen to dig the amalgamation of sounds in a new band. Well, unless they're trying too hard. Not in this case though.

When you appear
I know I won't be here
I just cant live in fear
Every night and day

La Blogotheque a.k.a one of my MOST favourite music website ever, did a Take Away Show with the band. SO MUCH WIN.
